Therapy Can help You Find A New Direction When You’re Feeling Stuck

I’ve been working in the field of mental health for many years and have traveled my own wellness journey too. One thing I’ve noticed is how helpful having an outside perspective can be when you’re feeling stuck. This applies to so many aspects of life, from struggling with unwanted habits and behaviours (from eating disorders to substance use) to trying to rediscover yourself after a big change has happened (like becoming a parent, changing jobs, or graduating). I’m a Registered Psychotherapist and I support people who are dealing with depression, anxiety, substance use, eating disorders, perinatal mental health, and those who are looking for a way forward in life - one with more meaning and purpose.

Eating Disorders and Substance Use Support

There are so many ways people cope. Anyone with an eating disorder or unwanted habit/substance use issue will tell you that at one time the behaviour that now harms, was, in fact helpful. A drink or two to unwind after a long day, a diet to fit into some snug clothing, or a pill to give you that added edge during exam time.

I get it, I truly do. As someone who’s been in recovery for a long time and has also worked at treatment centers for substance use and eating disorders - I have walked a similar path. I’m here on the other side, to say that peace and freedom is possible. If you no longer feel in control, if you want to stop, or you need support with harm reduction, I’m here to support you.

Help For New Parents

Another soft spot in my heart is for parents. When you’ve had a child, your life is completely, and irrevocably changed by something that is both beautiful, and truly isolating and confusing at times. It doesn’t matter if you went through years of IVF, or if the pregnancy was a complete surprise - the journey and the destination of becoming a caregiver for a tiny human is not for the weak of heart.

If you feel like you are suddenly invisible, if nobody asks how you are, but really it’s all about the baby or the kids, if you feel pressure to fit into a parental mold that just doesn’t quite fit who you are (but  now really who are you?) You are not alone! Parenthood is both beautiful and confusing, and if you need support in figuring out this new chapter in your life, whether you’re just a few weeks postpartum, or have been struggling for years, I’m here to help. I also support folks going through fertility treatment, and those who have experienced birth trauma and loss.

About My Story

I’m someone who is in recovery, and I embrace it actively to this day. I’m also a feminist, a mother, and someone with years working in the field of mental health. Before I was a therapist, I was a social worker who worked in the public and private system helping in treatment centers for substance use and eating disorders. I’ve helped with in-patient and outpatient support. Offering treatment plans and practical support for people who were struggling at a very deep level with life.

I saw the limits of what I could help with in that role, and so I went back to school to become a psychotherapist. Since then, I haven’t looked back, I love my work as a therapist and deeply appreciate being able to offer support to my clients.

What To Expect in Our Counselling Sessions

In session together, you can expect someone who is 100% in your corner. I am rooting for you! This is also a time just for you, there are no distractions, pressures or expectations. We will look at what is and is not working in your life and start to make a plan to help you to feel more empowered and supported.

My training as a clinician is focused on trauma informed, evidenced based treatments, spirituality, and more holistic approaches (with a focus on a whole body/personal ecosystem approach). This means I have many different tools that can provide insights, and new opportunities for growth and learning. I often use a mental health modality called Internal Family Systems. This is a type of therapy that helps you to understand and work with all aspects of yourself. It is powerful especially for those with childhood trauma, abuse and neglect.

Your Pain Is Real, And So Is Your Strength

When you’ve been living with pain and anguish for years, it can be hard to imagine a life that’s different. What I’m here to tell you is that I see you, and I respect your drive to survive. You’ve endured and persisted and lived through so much! It can be exhausting and disheartening to have many years of suffering, but with frustration and feeling tired, there can also be space for change. Is now the time that you can accept help? Will you allow someone to help you to untangle and unburden yourself? I’m here and ready to offer my support. Reach out if you’d like to book a session.
