Therapy Offers Hope For Relief From Anxiety

These days, it isn’t often that you can find the right moment, and a trusted person for you to really relax, speak your truth and feel like you’ve been heard. The thing about therapy is that it is a time just for you. This is true if you’re getting support with your partner for couples therapy, or if you are seeking one on one counselling. Our time together is all about helping your day to day life feel more manageable, and so that you can find more meaning and purpose, in both your relationships and in your inner world.

I support individuals in a variety of different areas including anxiety, work transitions, big life changes (and help during the time you are trying to make choices for the future), depression, motherhood, single parenthood, grief, divorce, and LGBTQ+ issues (I am a staunch ally).

With couples, I help folks who are at all different stages of their relationship. Some people come to me before making a big decision together (this could be cohabitation, marriage, having kids, or merging finances), some come after an infidelity, to work on an ongoing struggle, or to talk about polyamory or different relationship models. I also enjoy supporting people who are navigating co-parenting relationships or who want to separate with mutual respect and compassion.

How I Became A Therapist

I’m a mental health professional who has worked within the public sector for over 20 years. I’ve seen many people during their hardest times, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned in my career, it’s that everyone is doing the best they can, often under really difficult circumstances. I chose to become a psychotherapist in private practice because I saw the need for ongoing mental health care that isn’t held back by so much red tape or strict session limits.

In my personal life, I have seen a therapist myself and am a happier person from that support. I’m also a mother, have experienced both marriage and divorce, have lived as a single parent and have been remarried for several years to a supportive partner. These experiences have helped me to understand a great deal about the intricacies of love and relationships, and that we all have our paths to walk in this long journey called life.

My Approach To Therapy

While I integrate various methods to support my clients, one of my main approaches is called EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy). EFT is a type of therapy that works by helping you and your partner, loved ones, or just yourself, understand and express your emotions in a way that is authentic, honest, and caring. The idea is that when you feel safe and understood in your relationships, you can connect better with others and solve issues more easily. EFT helps you identify patterns in how you react emotionally, especially when you're feeling upset, and teaches you new ways to respond that bring you closer to others rather than pushing them away. It’s about building stronger emotional bonds and feeling more secure in your relationships. I sometimes incorporate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for clients that are struggling with habits that they wish to stop, or even with thought patterns that have become stuck over time.

I also draw from psychodynamic therapy, which offers valuable insights into how past experiences and unconscious dynamics shape present behaviors and relationships. Exploring these deeper, often unconscious layers can help you uncover long-standing emotional patterns rooted in early life experiences. By bringing these patterns into awareness, you can begin to break free from them and gain a greater sense of control over their emotions and relationships.

Is Now The Right Time For You To Start Therapy?

Is now the right time for you to begin therapy? Only you can answer that, but if you're feeling stuck in your relationship, anxious, depressed, or just unsure about how to move forward, it might be worth considering. Therapy offers a special time where you can explore your thoughts and emotions, get to the root of what’s troubling you, and start making meaningful changes. There’s no perfect moment to begin, but if you’re thinking about it, that might be a sign you’re ready to take the first step toward healing and growth. If now feels like the moment to begin, please reach out using the contact form below. I’m accepting new clients and looking forward to hearing from you.
