Healing Begins with Being Truly Heard

In a world where feeling understood can feel rare, speaking with a therapist offers a special chance to experience a time that is just for you, when you can voice your struggles and be truly heard. My goal as your counsellor is about creating a caring, welcoming environment where we can work together to address the challenges you are facing in your day-to-day life, so that you can begin feeling better, sooner.

Whether you're feeling overwhelmed by depression, struggling with sleep, dealing with anxiety, or just finding it tough to navigate life's daily challenges, I'm here to provide compassion, and a fresh perspective. We'll explore the patterns in your thoughts and behaviors together, always focusing on you as a whole person, not just the difficulties you're facing. My aim is to walk alongside you as you discover your own path to healing and growth.

My Journey as a Therapist in Training

I grew up in a very different world, in the country of Türkiye, and because of that I bring a unique perspective to therapy, particularly when it comes to cultural adaptation and the challenges that accompany it. Like many, my path to wanting to become a therapist began with seeing a counsellor of my own. Although I’m still young, I have experienced difficult moments in my life. During those times, what made the difference for me was having an understanding and compassionate therapist who provided a safe and supportive space. This experience was pivotal in my life and ignited a deep sense of compassion for others who are suffering. I realized that I wanted to offer the same kind of support to others. This realization guided me toward studying to starting to train as a therapist, with the goal of helping others through their own healing processes.

I chose McMaster University to train out of, because I appreciated the smaller class sizes compared to many other therapy schools, and the fact that McMaster also trains medical doctors gave me confidence that it is a university of the highest calibre. I am now in the practicum phase of my training to become a therapist, which means in many ways, just like with student physicians, it is now time to put my skills into practice. The clinical director at The Dot is my supervisor, and I am also supported by my university professors during my time as a therapist in training.

What to Expect in Our Sessions

My work as a therapist in training is grounded in empathy, curiosity, and ensuring I am holding space in a supportive way for you. Healing, in my view, is a collaborative process. I am committed to meeting you where you are, respecting your pace, and empowering you to discover new solutions to old problems.

In our sessions, we will work together to find and address your challenges as well as to look at your values and goals. My focus is on always seeing you as a person first, and making sure that you feel supported, respected, and understood. I value open communication and feedback.  Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the tools we might use. I appreciate CBT for its practicality and problem-solving nature, which can be especially valuable if you feel stuck and need a structured method to work through your challenges. I also always tailor CBT to meet your unique needs and pace. More than anything, therapy with me is about truly being heard. I'm here to listen, with an open heart and mind, to whatever you need to share.
