Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress and can be beneficial in some situations. It can alert us to dangers and help us prepare and pay attention. But if anxiety hits when we least expect it, especially when it becomes heightened anxiety, panic or obsessive/compulsive (OCD), it can differ from normal feelings of nervousness or anxiousness. It becomes a fear that we can’t always place.
When we aren’t sure what we’re scared of, it’s easy to feel as if we don’t know what’s going to happen next. Anxiety has a way of sneaking into moments when we least expect it and can force us to feel distant or frozen. Panic can jump out at any moment and take over when we least want it to, leaving us feeling like our lives are out of our control. And the trigger for the anxiety can seem impossible to find, which can leave us even more helpless. But… you’re not alone.
